The ECDOH has embarked on a Thuma Mina Community Wellness Programme to bring Health services closer to the people in the Buffalo City District Municipality (BCDM). The Thuma Mina Community Wellness Programme started from 1st February to 08th February
During the Community Wellness Programme, Health MEC Honourable, Helen Sauls August visited Ducats South (Ward 15) outside East London and Parkside communities in East London to deliver health services to the communities.
At Ducats she visited a Crèche (Sambesiwe Day Care Centre) for Early Childhood Development where she handed over some gifts and toys to the children. She also handed over boxes of Tooth Paste Colgate and Tooth Brushes to the children to brush their teeth in the morning and at night, as well as paint and paint brushes for the Crèche.
At the Parkside Crèche the MEC and other Senior officials including Mayor took turns demonstrating how to paint the Crèche with their hands and paint brushes. She also handed over boxes of Tooth Paste and Tooth Brushes, paint and Paint Brushes and a Microwave.
Afterwards the MEC went to visit Old Age Haven Wellness Centre at Parkridge where she addressed the Old Age Patients at the Centre. After the MEC’s address at the Centre, Ward 46 Councillor praised the MECs visit to the Old age Centre saying the visit was the first in 14 years by a Senior government official.
Variety of patients and those on wheel chairs were seen by the Honourable MEC as well as Doctors and nurses present attended to the needs of the Thuma Mina patients and Communities. Health Department various Programme officials including HIV/Aids, TB. HAST, Communicable and Non Communicable Diseases, Dentists, Communication officials as well as District and Local Officials assisted the MEC in delivering services for Health to the communities during the Wellness Campaign.
Services provided by the Thuma Mina Campaign during the MEC’s visit including Help Desk, Ushering Services, Patient Experience of Care Survey, EMS on site, Door-to-Door, Condom Distribution, Distribution of Tooth brushes and Party Packs, handing over of Assistive Devises and school Bags to disabled children, Intergrated School Health Programme and Learner Screening as well as Medical waste Management, Catering included Bread and Soup, Geriatric Services and assessments of eye problems, Inspection of Spaza Shops.
