Joe Gqabi Outreach Taking Services to the people
“I Want to Lend a Hand Send Me (THUMA-MINA)” those are President Cyril Ramaphosa’s words which the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) MEC Helen Sauls-August reiterated in Joe Gqabi district, taking quality Health Care Service to the people of Elundini and Senqu Municipality.
ECDoH was at Emdeni location in Mt Fletcher with its health practitioners comprising dentists, social workers, gynaecologists, optometrists and health promoters where they offered Integrated Health Programmes, Sexuality Education as well as School Health Programmes.
The doctors and nurses came out in numbers enthused in reaching houses of those who were in deep need of health services. The MEC and Cllr Ms Vangiwe Hokwana of Elundini Municipality visited Siyamthanda Disabled Centre and Pre-School where the MEC donated soccer balls, skipping ropes, tooth pastes, toothbrushes as well as sanitary towels to the teenage girls of Solomzi Junior Secondary School. The owner of the Centre Rev Mpumelelo Malembe felt so honoured and expressed words of appreciation to the MEC. The MEC went on to dispense 5 wheelchairs to 2 teenagers and 3 senior citizens.
On Saturday and Sunday in Senqu Municipality, Ward 14 at Lady Grey & Ward 3 at Palmietfontein, the MEC visited Yizanoxolo Pre-school and Siyaphambili Old Age Centre where she painted and planted vegetables, trees and handed over gifts to the kids. The MEC distributed reading glasses to the senior citizens at the Old Age Centre accompanied by the local the mayor Mrs Nomvuyo Mposelwa.
One of the members of the Old Age Home Tata Mputla couldn’t contain his excitement over the MEC’s visit as he felt so honoured that even when they are old, there are people who still think of them and take their time to pamper them and see to it that they are taken care of. The MEC had tea and cake with the senior citizens.
The last day of the program ended on a high note as Honourable MEC Helen Sauls- August and Acting DDG Clinical Dr Matiwane handed over four ambulances and two patient transport vehicles to the Mayor Mrs Nomvuyo Mposelwa, Executive Mayor Mr Dumzela as well as the Cllr Ntlwatini. This took place just outside Sterkspruit in Palmietfontein at the Makalakaleng Community Hall where the Thuma-Mina Bringing Services to the community took place.
