The 2018 Algoa FM Big Walk for cancer which was presented by the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) recorded a crowd of 13 239 participants who painted the Summerstrand beachfront in Port Elizabeth pink on Saturday the 27 October 2018.
Participants from as far as Aliwal North took part in this prestigious event in support of their family members and friends who are affected by cancer. They were also able to personalise their support for those affected by cancer by writing the people they were walking for on their walk numbers.
Commitment, perseverance, endurance and never giving up spirit, that is what kept Mjanyana hospital alive until this day. On the 2nd of October 2018 Mjanyana Hospital reached its 125thyears of existence and Engcobo community came together to celebrate the resilience and the tenacity of the 4000 leper patients that built the initial hospital when they were send there to die by the missionaries.
Shortly after opening the Nkqubela Tuberculosis (TB) Hospital’s new XDR-TB Unit which accommodates 60 patients (30 males and 30 females), the Eastern Cape Government began a process of relocating patients from the nearby Fort Grey TB Hospital to Nkqubela TB Hospital.
