Midwives from across the province together with academics from Eastern Cape Universities and Lilitha College of Nursing, Midwifery Students and District Clinical Specialist Midwives gathered at Mphekweni Beach resort from the 13 -15 November 2018 for the Provincial Midwifery Seminar under the theme “Midwives advocating for quality and respectful care in sexual reproductive maternal child and adolescent health”.
The seminar which was the first of its kind in the country was aimed at collectively assisting and contributing towards finding solutions to reduce maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality and making the Eastern Cape the home of midwifery.
The Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) together with the Eastern Cape Aids Council (ECAC) have moved a step closer towards fighting the Aids pandemic when they launched the massive Testing and treatment Campaign at the Uitenhage Town Hall on the 07th November 2018 under the theme “Tracing and reflecting on the giant steps made by the tireless leaders towards ending the Aids epidemic”.
The campaign launch which forms part of the build-up programmes for the World Aids Day is mainly aimed at testing a target of 10 000 people throughout the province, increase treatment initiation on those tested, intensify education on the viral load suppression programme as well as to trace all the lost to follow up cases through the welcome back campaign and get them back on treatment.

In 2018 South Africa marks the centenary of the life of Mama Albertina Sisulu. The Minister of Communication, Nomvula Mokonyane together with Chris Hani Municipality celebrated the Endurance and Resilience of Albertina Sisulu during the years of apartheid in Cofimvaba Hospital. Albertina Sisulu dedicated her life to the struggle to liberate the people of her country to a free and democratic country that honors basic human rights.
